Why An Outrigger Canoe?

Speed, comfort, safety and stability

 in a seaworthy package

Speed:  It has a narrow beam, long waterline, low frontal area and smooth chineless hull, giving you effortless speed in glassy flat water and big pacific waves.

Comfort: Kayaks sit you near the floor and leave your legs stretched out in front of you in a closed cockpit.  This position puts tension in the hamstrings and leads to leg discomfort.  The outrigger's higher seating position is more comfortable.  You can keep a natural bend in your legs and move them about in the cockpit if they feel tight.  Finally, you can comfortably paddle for hours.

Stability:  With an outrigger you catch big waves instead of worrying about them.  The more stable platform lets you truly relax and enjoy your paddling in all water conditions.

Safety:  The open cockpit lets you get out of the boat easily in the event of a flip, and the outrigger serves as a stability device to help you get back in.  No eskimo rolls, paddle floats or two boat rescues necessary.  Crawl onto the back deck, put your feet in the footwell and slide onto the seat.

Seaworthiness:  The modern single person outrigger was born in the big surf of Hawaii.  This modern spin on a centuries old idea helps these boats tackle the toughest sea conditions.
