The Island Racer
OC1
The
Island Racer is fun to build and a blast to paddle. The narrow beam
and tortured plywood construction give this boat an optimum shape, allowing
the Island Racer to glide quickly and effortlessly through flat and rough
water.
|
The seating position
is level with the gunwales keeping the paddler in a higher more powerful
and comfortable position. The more natural seating position
eliminates the common kayak problems of tight hamstrings and cramped legs. The roomy footwell houses the
ergonomically angled foot pedals while still giving you room to stretch
your legs.
|
 |
The foot pedals actuate the rudder through
stainless steel cables and an aluminum cross bar. The sizeable
rudder is mounted inboard of the stern, which makes the boat track and steer
beautifully in any water condition. The rudder is built on a carbon spar
for strength, lightness, and corrosion resistance.
|

 |
The outrigger pontoon is built
from the same 3mm okume plywood as the boat. The pontoon is both
light and hydrodynamic. It stabilizes the boat in rough and flat
water conditions.
The laminated spruce crossbeams hold the
outrigger in place, and can be quickly detached for easy car topping.

The Island Racer is designed to
please the most discerning paddler. It's comfort, speed and
maneuverability make it a joy to paddle.
