Building Your Kit

The Island racer is easy to build and anyone can do it.  No experience is necessary, and you only need a few inexpensive hand tools to put it together.  Here is a brief overview of the process:

The precut panels and gunwale spars are scarfed and glued together.  Then the gunwales are glued onto the edges forming the two complete hull sides.

Drill holes along the keel of the hull sides and seams of the outrigger pontoon.  Wire together the keel and outrigger pontoon hull.

Spread out the hull of the boat and add fiberglass tape the bottom of the hull as well as the seams of the outrigger pontoon.

Add front and rear bulkheads and pull the hull into its final shape using ropes tied around the hull.

Glue on the front and rear decks of the hull and the outrigger pontoon.

Glue the Crossbeams together with epoxy.

Trim the deck and fit out the hull with pedals, seat and cockpit combing.  Finish the outside of the boat with paint, or varnish.
